RCMP Needs Witness/Video of Fatal Collision on Highway 7 at Chawathil Road in Hope

Hope – RCMP BC Highway Patrol is in search of witnesses to fatal collision on Highway 7 near Hope over the weekend.

On Saturday morning September 25 (11AM), BC Highway Patrol Chilliwack and Emergency Services attended a fatal collision on Highway 7 at Chawathil Road in Hope.

Upon arrival it was determined that an eastbound Mazda attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle when it collided with the first of two westbound motorcycles. The first motorcycle went down, throwing its rider, and was then struck by the second motorcycle, also throwing its rider. Both motorcycles came to rest in the ditch. The rider of the first motorcycle was killed in the collision, while the second rider was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda, a woman in her twenties from Port Coquitlam, as not injured and remained on scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation however impairment has been ruled out as a contributing factor. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has information about this crash who has yet to speak with police, including anyone with dashboard camera video, and especially anyone who departed the area before the arrival of emergency crews. Your information, even if it seems insignificant, may aid police with their investigation.
