OPINION – Surrey Board of Trade Congratulates Justin Trudeau on Re-Election – Action Needed Now on Fiscal Prudence, Taxation, Economic & Business Growth

Surrey – On September 20, 2021, Trudeau’s Liberal Party of Canada was re-elected by Canadians.

“The Surrey Board of Trade will remain steadfast and resolute on economic policies that will support and attract business,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade.

“Our hope and our continued ask is that all Canadian political parties will put politics aside and focus on economic growth for small, medium and large businesses, and their workforces.”

Businesses play a foundational role in delivering economic growth, although it is up to governments to create the conditions that enable growth to occur. The Surrey Board of Trade wants the Federal Government to focus on:
(1) Comprehensive tax reform
(2) A modern, productive, inclusive workforce to address labour shortages
(3) Revenue generation to reduce debt – incorporating a fiscal anchor
(4) Enhancing social infrastructure across the country – homelessness and lack of access to housing is unacceptable in Canada
(5) Reliable and sustainable international trade opportunities for all businesses
(6) A clear strategy to get infrastructure dollars to projects quickly to create jobs
(7) An immigration and international student strategy that enables productive career and entrepreneurial outcomes
(8) Ensuring all families have access to affordable child care
(9) Implementing a national pharmacare plan to alleviate the burden on business

Here are the riding results for Surrey:

·       South Surrey – White Rock – Kerry-Lynne Findlay (Conservative Incumbent)

·       Cloverdale – Langley City – John Aldag (Liberal)

·       Fleetwood – Port-Kells – Ken Hardie (Liberal Incumbent)

·       Surrey-Newton – Sukh Dhaliwal (Liberal Incumbent)

·       Surrey-Centre – Randeep Sarai (Liberal Incumbent)

“We congratulate all of the winners in this election and thank those who ran for political office.”

“The Surrey Board of Trade will continue to instigate change through federal government advocacy because Surrey Matters!”
