2021 All-CEBL First, Second & All-Canadian Teams Revealed – One Bandit Makes Second Team and All-Canadian

Fraser Valley – The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced its 2021 All-CEBL First, Second, and All-Canadian Team on Thursday. Teams are determined by votes cast by the league’s coaches, general managers, team presidents, broadcasters, and internal media personnel. 

The All-CEBL First Team is as follows: 

  • Xavier Moon, Guard, Edmonton Stingers
  • Lindell Wigginton, Guard, Hamilton Honey Badgers
  • Jordan Baker, Forward, Edmonton Stingers
  • Nick Ward, Forward, Ottawa BlackJacks
  • Javin DeLaurier, Forward, Niagara River Lions 

Xavier Moon averaged 21.3 points and 5.3 assists en route to being named the 2021 CEBL Player of the Year and leading the Edmonton Stingers to the 2021 CEBL Championship. Moon was also named 2021 Finals MVP. Hamilton guard Lindell Wigginton averaged 21.5 points to claim the 2021 scoring title as well as Canadian Player of the Year and Clutch Player of the Year awards. Canadian Player of the Year runner-up Jordan Baker averaged 14.9 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Stingers. Ottawa forward Nick Ward led the BlackJacks in both points (17.3) and rebounds (8.9), while River Lions forward and Defensive Player of the Year runner-up Javin DeLaurier led the CEBL in rebounds (10.4).

The All-CEBL Second Team is comprised of:

  • Cat Barber, Guard, Guelph Nighthawks
  • Alex Campbell, Guard, Fraser Valley Bandits 
  • Marlon Johnson Jr., Forward, Edmonton Stingers
  • Brandon Gilbeck, Forward, Fraser Valley Bandits 
  • Ahmed Hill, Forward, Guelph Nighthawks 

Cat Barber led the Guelph Nighthawks in both points (17.6) and assists (4.4), while Ahmed Hill finished second for Guelph in points (16.8) and assists (2.3). Fraser Valley forward Brandon Gilbeck averaged 8.1 rebounds and a league-leading 2.7 blocks to capture Defensive Player of the Year. Alex Campbell was the CEBL’s top three-point shooter in 2021 draining a league-leading 52 three-pointers and averaging a team-high 14.9 points for the Bandits. Marlon Johnson Jr. finished top three in points (15.3), rebounds (6.9) and steals (1.5) for champion Edmonton.

The CEBL All-Canadian Team, which is new to the league in 2021, includes:

  • Lindell Wigginton, Guard, Hamilton Honey Badgers
  • Alex Campbell, Guard, Fraser Valley Bandits 
  • Jordan Baker, Forward, Edmonton Stingers
  • Tommy Scrubb, Forward, Niagara River Lions
  • Shaquille Keith, Forward, Fraser Valley Bandits  

Joining Wigginton (Dartmouth, NS), Campbell (Brampton, ON) and Baker (Edmonton, AB) are River Lions forward Tommy Scrubb (Richmond, BC) and Bandits forward Shaquille Keith (Toronto, ON) on the All-Canadian Team. Scrubb was a pivotal piece of Niagara’s CEBL Finals run and averaged 17.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists in seven games for the River Lions. Keith, the runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year, averaged 12.0 points and 2.9 assists, while shooting 47.8 per cent from the field.
