IHIT Confirms Homicide at Seabird Island

Seabird Island/Agassiz – It started with a body discovered in a field on Thursday and now it’s a homicide investigation.

From IHIT:

On August 26, 2021 at 7:30 a.m., the RCMP Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD) responded to a call and found a deceased male in a field on Chowat Road, in Agassiz.  An initial exam by front line police determined the death to be suspicious. IHIT was called in to investigate.

The scene is a large outdoor area and has been secured by UFVRD RCMP.  Homicide investigators are still processing the scene with the assistance of the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the Agassiz RCMP.  The B.C. Coroners Service has also been engaged. The victim is a 25-year-old male and has been identified. Further details to be released as it becomes available.

IHIT is working with the Seabird Island Indigenous Community during this investigation.  The Seabird Island Community is grappling with this tragic incident and ask for privacy to allow the families to grieve through this difficult time.

“This incident is not believed to be involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict,” says Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, “It was an isolated incident and there are no additional safety risks to the public in this matter.”
