Stepped Up Mountie Presence at Kawkawa Lake To Deal With Rowdy Partyers, Unsafe Boaters – Starts May Long Weekend

Hope/Kawkawa Lake – Rowdy partygoers and unsafe boat operators can expect police attention as RCMP schedule enhanced patrols of Kawawka Lake this summer.

Kawawka Lake traditionally attracts water sport enthusiasts and visitors over the summer months who enjoy the boating and beach life the lake offers. In recent years however, police noted a spike in unruly behaviour and unsafe boating practices reported to the Hope RCMP from the May long weekend to Labour Day.

Included with the influx of people during the summer months there are those who choose not to play nicely in the water, says Staff Sergeant Travis De Coene of the Hope RCMP. Strict enforcement by our officers can be expected both at the lake and areas surrounding the lake.

Scheduled from May 22, through September 6, 2021 the BC RCMP also wants to ensure citizens the enhanced patrols will not effect police service to the community.
