Fraser Valley – It’s all in the branding.
For almost 20 years, provincial traffic operations have been known as E Division Traffic Services or BC RCMP Traffic Services.
To clarify the role of the program and concisely define service delivery on BC’s provincial highways, provincial traffic operations will be now called: BC Highway Patrol. Organizers believe this new name more clearly distinguishes the role and service delivery from the municipal and detachment traffic services.
If it appears that it sounds like an American influence on the name, there was the 70’s TV series CHiP’S. California Highway Patrol Officer, the guys on the motorcycles.
BC Highway Patrol will continue to conduct traffic enforcement, and criminal collision investigations involving serious injury and death on BC’s provincial highways.
