Chilliwack (With files from Josh Olund BCIT Radio A&E) – What started off as a basic nuts and bolts Chilliwack School Board Meeting erupted into on line controversy when three Trustees, Maahs, Neufeld and Ferguson, balked at a motion on Board Professional Learning.
The motion read in part : That the Superintendent present options and associated cost for board training provided or recommended by British Columbia’s office of the human rights commissioner out of future public meeting of the board. The Board of Education direct to Secretary-Treasurer to set aside $7,000 through the board of governance budget $1,000 from each trustee’s professional learning fund while the cost implications of recommended training from the office of the human rights commissioner are considered.
Basically, the three we balking at contributing $1000 from their personal Pro D monies to put towards their Human Rights training. The motion passed 4-3.
All of this overshadowed the drop in school COVID numbers and $5M approved for capital projects including new schools.
The entire meeting can be found below.

Christopher Hunt, a teacher and spouse of Chair Willow Reichelt also noted that Trustee Barry Neufeld was seen dozing off during the meeting ( early in the session). Neufeld has been criticized for sleeping in meeting in the past
