Giants Road Skid Continues in K-Town

Kelowna (Josh Olund BCIT Radio A&E) – The Vancouver Giants have now suffered their fourth straight loss on Thursday night, this time at the hands of the Kelowna Rockets with a final score of 4-3 in Kelowna.

When the puck dropped in the first, the Giants came out first with the goal-scoring as ZackOstapchuk score the first goal of the game at 9:03to make it a 1-0 Giants lead.But the Giants would increase the lead quickly asOstapchuk would score his second goal of the game just 37 seconds later to give the Giants a 2-0 lead before the halfway mark of the period.However, the Rockets would get on back on the power play from Dillon Hamaliuk at 13:21 to cut the deficit in half.

It would stay at 2-1 going into the first intermission.In the second period, the Rockets would be the ones to strike first as they would register a shorthanded goal from Turner McMillen to tie the game at 2-2 4:19 into the second.The Giants would break the tie just a few minutes later as Bryce Bader would add another goal for the Giants at 7:40 to make it a 3-2 game, which would stay that way until the end of the period.

As the third period rolled on, the Rockets would eventually tie the game on the power play once again, this time from Jake Lee to make it a 3-3 contest at 14:29 of the final frame.Then with less than two minutes to play, the Rockets would finally take the lead off a goal from Alex Swetlikoff at 18:27 to make it 4-3 for the Rockets.

The Giants are now 9-7-0 and haven’t been able to gain any extra ground towards getting the top spot in the B.C. Division and are currently six points behind the Kamloops Blazers.The next Giants game is Saturday, May 1 against the Victoria Royals (1-13-1) at 7:05 PM in Kelowna.
