Blazers Shut Out Giants 2-0

Vancouver (Josh Olund BCIT A&E) – The Vancouver Giants are now on a two-game losing streak after dropping another game thisweekend, but this time, it was from the Kamloops Blazer sin a 2-0 loss on Sunday night.

This game didn’t have any goals in the opening frame, but instead, there was a fight that broke out 2:49 into the first period between Alex Kannok Leipert and Montana Onyebuchi.

In the second period, the Blazers would be the ones to break the stalemate after a goal from Daylan Kuefler at 11:36 into the period to make it1-0. Which would ultimately be the game-winning goal.

In the third period, the Blazers would add one more goal from 2020 first-round pick Connor Zaryat 10:28 to make it 2-0.And that would do it for this match. Even though Giants goaltender, Trent Miner, played a very good game stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced, the rest of the Giants players weren’t able to add any offence.

With this shutout loss, not only was it the first time the Giants have been shutout this season, but Justin Sourdif’s nine-game point streak has come to an end. In that streak, Sourdif registered five goals and nine assists for a total of 14 in those nine games.

This loss also makes the Giants now four points behind the Blazers for first place in the B.C. Division, with a record of 9-5-0.

The Giants’ next game will be a rematch against the Blazers on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
