Apartment Fire Above Chilliwack Chilli’s Donair – Smoke Alarm Not Working – Anavets Next Door Was Not Touched

Chilliwack – Just after 10PM on Tuesday night, 45 firefighters from Chilliwack firehalls 1,2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 responded to a reported fire in a 2 storey multi-family residential building with an attached restaurant on the ground floor (Chilli’s Donair) The building is located in the 46000 block of Yale Road.

Fire crews arrived on scene to heavy black smoke showing from the roof area.

Firefighters gained access to the suite and quickly extinguished fire that was located in one of the bedrooms. Crews vented the smoke and confirmed the fire had not extended past the area of origin.

Majority of the fire, smoke and water damage was contained to the one suite with minor water damage to the restaurant on the lower floor.

Occupants of the apartment suite had safely evacuated with no injuries.

Emergency Support Services (ESS) attended to provide support for the displaced tenants.

Cause of the fire was accidental and possibly related to the building’s electrical system.

Chilliwack Fire Department reminds residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms should be tested regularly.

Next door is the Anavets, which had some smoke come in but no damage. From their Facebook page Josee Potvin Chilliwack Anavets 305: Just to let our Members know, it was a fire on the second floor of chilli’s restaurant last night the one just beside the Unit. I’m letting you know the unit is fine just a little smoke smell. The fire department was there fast and extinguished the fire in a fast and orderly manner. They put a big fan at the front door, open the back door and the smell of smoke is gone.
