Chilliwack Alano Gets Help From Lions Club, No Help From ICBC

Chilliwack – For the second time in less than a year, the Chilliwack Lions Club have come to the aid of the Chilliwack Alano Club.

The Alano is a clean and sober safe haven and community meeting place. Not only does it serve the recovery community with meetings such as AA, Alanon, CODA and CA, it is also a safe gathering place for seniors.

It does not receive similar funding as Ruth and Naomi’s, Cyrus Centre or Salvation Army as it is not a shelter, food bank or soup kitchen.

It has a kitchen of its own and serves meals from 9:30 AM to 3:30PM , 7 days a week.

While $7 a month memberships do help, the Alano relies on government grants or outside assistance.

The Chilliwack Lions continue to help with masks and cleaning products during the pandemic.

In April 2019, a senior had a medical emergency off the corner of Nowell and Victoria and drove into the back security fence. Since then, ICBC has not co-operated in assisting the club with replacement insurance money. The window for that help will close in May.

The Alano also needs a tree cutting service as they have a massive old tree in the front yard that is starting to split and fail. The Alano will need a new “used” gas lawnmower as the one they have is well past time prime.

Dave Lock from Lock’s Pharmacy and Don Lehn of FVN/chillTV are on the Board of Directors and they can give you more information.
