Playgrounds in Abbotsford Re-opening June 1

Abbotsford – The City of Abbotsford will start re-opening playgrounds, starting Monday June 1.

With over 70 playgrounds across Abbotsford, re-opening may take a few days to be completed. Residents are asked to wait to use the playgrounds until staff can fully remove the caution tape and put up safety signage.

Playground equipment is not regularly cleaned or sanitized so usage of equipment is at the user’s own risk.  Not all playgrounds are in parks with washroom facilities so residents are encouraged to bring their own hand-sanitizer. Parents and caregivers are responsible to ensure safety measures are practiced as directed by the Provincial Health Officer of maintaining 2 metres of physical distancing, washing hands for at least 20 seconds before and after use, and staying home if you are not feeling well.

Sport courts including tennis, pickleball, basketball and skate parks re-opened on Monday May 19, with new safety guidelines in place.  City recreation centres remain closed until further notice.

The City continues to engage with Fraser Health, as well as the Provincial and Federal government for information on revised best practices for re-opening safely.
