UFV Cascades Volleyball Add Iibero Baird To Recruiting Class

Abbotsford – The University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team has rounded out its recruiting class, signing libero Elizabeth Baird.

Baird, a graduate of Campbell Collegiate in Regina, Sask., joins the Cascades after one season with the Briercrest College Clippers and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining. She’s the UFV women’s volleyball program’s lone out-of-province player among the 2020 recruiting class – all six previously announced recruits hail from the Fraser Valley.

“We’re really excited about her athleticism and her ball control, and we’re excited to welcome someone who has experience at the collegiate level,” Cascades head coach Janelle Rozema said. “She’s also a really positive person with a passion for contributing to her community, which is important to our program.”

Baird had an outstanding prep volleyball career, helping the Campbell Tartans win four straight Regina city titles (2016-2019) along with the 2019 Saskatchewan 5A provincial championship. On the club scene, her Southeast Surge won gold at the Montana Junior tournament and Sask Cup 3 last year, and took silver at provincials. The 5’7” libero was also part of the Saskatchewan U18 squad which won gold at the Canada Cup national championship.

Baird earned numerous awards at Campbell Collegiate, recognizing athletic excellence, volleyball leadership, extracurricular involvement, and humanitarian contributions.

“Having been born in the Abbotsford area and moving to Saskatchewan at a young age, I have always had an affinity for B.C.,” said Baird, who will study kinesiology. “I chose UFV because it was offering the academic program that I was looking for in a smaller supportive setting. Transferring from Briercrest College, I appreciate the smaller class sizes that UFV offers. I am so excited to have the opportunity to play with a team that will be competing at the U SPORTS level.”
