Chilliwack – The annual elections for the Chilliwack School Board positions was this past Tuesday.
While David Coulter remains as Chair, David Swankey replaces Willow Reischelt as Vice Chair.
Almost on cue, Trustee Barry Neufeld made it clear that he didn’t like the way Coulter was running the show. Trustee Heather Heather Maahs nominated Barry Neufeld , which was not successful. Neufeld made comments comparing the Board vote to the military “if the Generals only had 43 per cent of his lieutenants, he wouldn’t feel he would have success”. That was the reference to the many 4-3 votes that the Board had made since their 2018 election.
In the end, the board heading into 2020 is:
Chair – Trustee Coulter
Vice-Chair – Trustee Swankey
BCPSEA ( BC Public School Employers’ Association Provincial Councillor) – Trustee Jared Mumford
BCPSEA Alternate – Trustee Maahs
BCSTA( BC School Trustee Association Provincial Councilor) – Trustee Reichelt
BCSTA Alternate – Trustee Swankey
Ballots were destroyed after the vote which did not remain on the final video posted to the School Board Website.
