Chiefs Were Smoked 3-1 In Trail

Trail – (Trail Smoke Eaters) It was the Logan Terness show Saturday night at Cominco as the Smoke Eaters held on for a 3-1 victory over the visiting Chilliwack Chiefs

The Smoke Eaters, understandable so, were a little sluggish out of the gate but found themselves on level terms going to the first intermission. Terness faced 17 shots in the opening period as the Chiefs brought the pressure looking to take all four points on their interior road trip. The Smoke Eaters had better chances later in the period but were unable to beat Mathieu Caron through the first period.

In the second the Smoke Eaters looked more like themselves and opened the scoring on a power play goal courtesy of Tyler Ghirardosi, who picked up his third goal of the weekend. Ghirardosi went to the front of the net and found the puck mid air off a few bounces to bat one past Caron to open the scoring.

The Chiefs would put the pressure on following that goal as they looked to tie the game but couldn’t break Terness, who stood strong and allowed the Smoke Eaters to double their lead. Max Kyrski, who’s goal would stand as the eventual game winner, was in the right place at the right time as Jameson Murray’s shot was stopped by Caron, who gave up a juicy rebound, that Kryski took advantage of.

In the third the Chiefs would finally get one past Terness but that’s all they could muster. Terness made 47 of 48 saves on the night and was rightfully named first star for his efforts. Powell Connor put a bow on the game with a empty net goal, as he launched the puck from his own zone straight down the middle and into the open cage.
