Chilliwack – With profound sadness, the Chilliwack Chiefs announce that long-time Chiefs family member Jacob Bestebroer (aka “JB”) has passed away following an extended battle with cancer.
He was a passionate fan of the team and served the organization in many roles including broadcaster, scout, statistician, media relations, and billet.
From the team’s media release: Without question, JB knew more about the Chiefs than anyone else. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with JB’s wife, Pat, and daughters.
Barry Douglas who handles marketing and PR for the team, posted to Facebook: I am going to miss JB. Even though sadly we knew today was coming, the reality of it is extremely difficult. I am a better person from my friendship with JB. I am gonna miss the ability to ask him for a Chiefs stat and have the answer in less then 10 seconds. I am gonna miss his ability to make me laugh in his unique dry way. I am gonna miss the texts “This (insert team name or athletes name) is a joke. I am gonna miss chatting w him about anything and everything. I am going to miss knowing that if I said something In confidence to him that i knew It was in confidence. I am gonna miss him sincerely asking about me and my family. I am gonna miss hearing about which sports cards he just bought or sold. I am really going to miss his passion for the Chiefs. I could go on and on about what I miss about JB. To Pat Bestebroer Thank you for supporting his commitment to the Chiefs. Our organization benefited from his dedication and i will be forever grateful. Rest In Peace JB.
