Delivering shows that are fun, energetic, participatory, and meaningful, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer have been connecting families through music for over 30 years. With superb harmonies backed by instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, cello, banjo, ukulele, and steel drums, they have performed more than 5,000 shows.

The duo’s release “Dancin’ In The Kitchen: Songs for ALL Families” features songs that reflect the growing diversity of family structures in North America and around the world, and highlight the idea that families are bound by love, with music celebrating love and diversity.

In 2004 and 2005, Cathy & Marcy were awarded back-to-back Grammy® Awards for their children’s recordings “cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins” and “Bon Appétit!: Musical Food Fun.” The dynamic duo has received twelve other Grammy® nominations for children’s and folk music, and have entertained the Queen of Thailand, sung at the White House’s Easter Egg Roll, performed at hundreds of folk festivals, and toured around the world.

Before the Township of Langley audience welcomes Cathy & Marcy to the Amphitheatre stage, they are invited to come out and enjoy a variety of free, fun amenities and activities in the surrounding Willoughby Community Park.

Children’s Day in the Park gets underway at 3:00pm. Families can play in the large spray park and children’s playground, and participate in arts and crafts workshops and activities organized by the Langley Arts Council and the Langley Centennial Museum. Township Parks and Recreation staff will be on hand to coordinate children’s games and recreational activities.

At 4:00pm, Edward the Magician will perform a magic show, followed by balloon twisting.  A few food vendors will be available at 5:00pm for the dinner hour, and the Township encourages guests to bring a picnic supper to enjoy under the picnic shelter or on blankets at the amphitheatre while waiting for Cathy & Marcy to take the stage.

The concert is part of the Township’s Summer Festival Series, which runs every Thursday evening through to the end of August at the Willoughby Community Park Amphitheatre. All performances are free, suitable for all ages, and will feature a variety of musical genres. Visit tol.ca/summerfest.
