Abbotsford – Abbotsford residents are encouraged to pick litter up around their workplace, school, community trails and streets during Community Clean-Up Week from April 15 – 21. Residents can volunteer their time to help beautify their neighbourhood and do their part for Earth Day.
Volunteers make a huge impact in our community, and in 2018, 4,240 residents participated in this Community Clean-Up program. These participants included local residents, community groups, organizations and local schools including students and teachers from Abby Middle, Abby Senior Green Team, Auguston Traditional Elementary School, Centennial Park Elementary, Eugene Reimer Middle, Margaret Stenersen Elementary, MEI Middle School, Sandy Hill Elementary, Thomas Swift Elementary, and the WJ Mouat Key Club who contributed to beautifying their city.
This initiative provides teachers with a great way to link the Ministry of Education, Prescribed Learning Outcomes to a practical, hands-on, learning opportunity for students. The City of Abbotsford would like to challenge residents to get involved in Community Clean-up Week.
How to get involved:
- Register at www.abbotsford.ca/volunteerapplication by April 10, 2019.
- Pick-up supplies and review the safety guidelines with our Volunteer Coordinator.
- Yellow garbage bags can be placed with your household garbage pick-up. Extra garbage stickers are not required.
