Fort Langley – The Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival is offering a unique opportunity for one talented jazz student to become its first Rising Young Star
The inaugural award will recognize an outstanding student from the lower mainland who is or will be studying jazz music at the post-secondary level, who demonstrates a high level of performance ability and will be pursuing a professional career in jazz music.
The Rising Young Star recipient will be given an opportunity to perform with a main stage artist on Saturday, July 27 during the festival and in their own featured performance on Sunday, July 28. They will also receive a scholarship of $1,000.
Award applications are open until March 31, 2019 on the festival website.
Youth and emerging talent are also invited to participate in the festival’s Jazz Education Workshop on Sunday, July 28 from 1-4pm at Chief Sepass Theatre.
The workshop is $20 and includes a festival t-shirt and refreshments. Register on the festival website.
The Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to enrich cultural life in the Fraser Valley by bringing emerging and established jazz acts and visual art together to Fort Langley for all to enjoy. Established in 2018, the festival drew thousands of residents and visitors to the streets of Fort Langley during the last weekend in July. The 2019 festival will be held July 26-28, 2019.
