Chilliwack – A three hour crime spree, which included the theft of a senior’s car at Chilliwack General Hospital, ended up with a local man in jail after his arrest by RCMP.
The arrest stems from a call made to the Chilliwack RCMP, early Tuesday evening (January 8, 2019) to report the theft of a red SUV in the parking lot of Chilliwack General Hospital . Officers quickly linked a suspect to the theft and began searching for the stolen vehicle.
While police searched, further complaints connected the suspect driving the stolen vehicle with attempts to steal purses from customers in parking lots of businesses in the 8100-block of Young Road and 45000-block Luckakuck Way as well as a break and enter in the 46000-block of Sylvan Drive.
Just after 9 p.m. RCMP officers responded to a call of a motor vehicle crash on Prest Road near the Trans-Canada-Highway. General Duty officers supported by the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) arrived at the site where the stolen car was found abandoned.
RCMP service dog DAVE immediately began following a track of human scent from the crash scene into surrounding fields where the suspect was located and taken into custody.
50 year old Thomas Edward Borecky of Chilliwack is charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault causing bodily harm, break and enter to commit offence, 2 counts of robbery, and 2 counts of possession of stolen property. Mr. Borecky remains in custody pending a court date in January.
A victim who was injured during one of the attempted theft’s was transported by ambulance to hospital and later released, says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD.
