BC Search And Rescue Needs Big $$$ To Stay In Operation

Victoria – The 80 BC Search and Rescue teams across the province are hopeful next year’s budget will include major dollars to provide permanent funding.

BCSAR’s Chris Mushumanski, says his organization represents more than 80 teams, says they need about $5 to $10-million in funding.  That works out to assisting 2,500 volunteers who respond to over 1,600 call-outs a year.

Hope springs eternal that new 2018-2019 provincial budget will provide some $5M – $10M in funding. Currently small parcels of money and donations , make up their budget.

With rising numbers ion Tourism comes the fact that more people venture out into the wilderness, and those unprepared get into trouble and need SAR to assist them.

The 2019 BC Provincial Budget is expected to be tabled by April 2019.
