Chilliwack – NOVEMBER 24 UPDATE – The Old Lions Club Building will be used as an extreme winter shelter (Yale and Williams). Ruth and Naomi’s Mission received the go ahead from the city for a 24/7 shelter that can accommodate 40 people, men and women in separated portions of the old flea market. City Council was able to massage the rules for a four month permit to get around zoning particulars. New permanent housing units for the homeless should go on line in February and March 2019, thus only a four month term. A good neighbour policy is in place as well as security concerns have been addressed.
JUNE 30 ORIGINAL STORY – A sign of the times. Very few volunteers, rent, the neighbourhood, homelessness, open drug use, local crime. It all adds up to the end of a 25 year era for the Chilliwack Lions Club Flea Market.
FVN was told be volunteer staff (lovely seniors that they are) that they plan on shutting their doors at the end of July.
The thrift shop is on Yale Road at Williams. A hood that has it’s fair share of street crime, burglars on bikes, drug deals and can be intimidating to many, especially seniors.
As always with any second hand store, you can find the occasional treasure from what someone else calls their trash.
Check it out before the doors close forever July 31.
Yup, found a little gem at the store.
