Purple Lights Abbotsford Preparing For Two Events – October 3, 18

Abbotsford – Abbotsford Police and the Purple Lights organizers are gearing up for the 2018 Abbotsford Purple Lights Campaign.

The slogan this year is “Shine More Light”

The committee is already looking to bring more awareness that previous years. Below are just 5 easy ways you can become involved:

Visit the new Facebook page or Instagram! That’s right we are now on social media. Search “Purple Lights Abbotsford” on Facebook, and/or purple_lights_abby on Instagram then follow. Important information about upcoming events is located there.

Participate in the Art Contest! New this year they are asking for the high schools, university and community to get inspired and creative! Further details of this on the Facebook page.

Attend the Lighting Ceremony. Mark October 3 and 18 on your calendar.

On October 3 from 4-7pm, Highstreet Shopping Mall, will be lighting up the Plaza in Purple Lights. Abbotsford Mayor, Council Members and Chief of Police will be attending. On October 11, 2018 from 6-8pm “The Reach” will host an opening of community pieces from our art contest.

It will be followed the next week, October 18 from 6-8pm, by a program night among the art pieces, which attendees will hear stories from individuals passionate about this campaign about survivor’s experiences with Domestic Violence.

Wear the message “Shine more Light” via new swag! Active t-shirts, lightweight hoodies, toques, button pins and more. Purchase and wear them in October, to the lighting ceremony or throughout the year!

If you would like to purchase some swag for yourself or for your place of business contact Tara Weber (tweber@abbypd) or Jamie Armstrong (jamie.d.armstrong@gov.bc.ca) for order forms or to arrange a date and time to bring over a sizing kit.

Hang purple lights in your home or place of work. They want to light up Abbotsford in Purple.

Thank you for your help in remembering, supporting and giving hope to those who have been touched by Domestic Violence.
