2018 APD Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley

Abbotsford – The Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley kicks off Thursday with opening ceremonies beginning at 9:30 am at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School.

APD Officers, Cst Jody Thomas, Cst Robyn Lamarche, Cst Renae Williams and Cst Neil Cole are representing Abbotsford this year.  Over a period of nine days, these Officers will ride 900 kms throughout the Fraser Valley, first cycling northeast from Langley to Boston Bar, then southwest to Tsawwassen and White Rock.

APD Officers will be riding this year in memory of Cst John Davidson, who rode in last year’s Cops for Cancer Tour, and had planned to ride again this year.  Cst Davidson’s sister, Janie Robinson, has travelled from the UK to ride in his place this tour. 

In addition to the riders’ send off, Abbotsford’s own Clayburn Middle student, Gabby Waddell, will be be having her head shaved in support of the tour!!  Gabby has been raising money for Cops for Cancer for the past 6 months.  This young lady partnered with Cops for Cancer’s Cst Jody Thomas to raise awareness and money for cancer treatments & research in the memory of her Grandpa and Cst Davidson. Gabby has met her $5,000 fundraising goal as of Wednesday.

Facts:

·         Tour de Valley has raised over $500,000 so far this year;

·         Cops for Cancer has raised $42 million dollars over the past 2 decades;

 Since 1986, over 10,000 children and families have attended Camp Goodtimes!
