Your Opinion – As Ratings Start – What Do You Want In A Fraser Valley Radio Station? (VIDEO)

Fraser Valley – Now before we get into this, we ask that all the trolls who DON’T like radio, to not bother commenting. We know where you don’t stand.

For those of you who care about local radio, we ask, what do you want in your local radio station for the Fraser Valley?

Labour Day is the traditional start for the Fall Ratings Period in Canadian Radio. Major markets such as Vancouver use an electronic monitoring system called PPM (Portable People Meter that you carry with you and collects info on radio that you listen to anywhere). In smaller markets, an actual physical ballot is mailed out to you after you do a quick phone interview with Numeris, the national gatherer if radio information and ratings. You would be asked to keep a running tally of your listening preferences for a week and mail the log back to Numeris.

Last month, Jim Pattison Broadcasting bought one of the commercial FM stations in Chilliwack.

A takeover purchase usually means a format change. Maybe not an immediate change, perhaps one down the road.

So FVN is curious about what you want to hear.

For the record, Chilliwack has three commercial stations (although two are shared with Abbotsford and one shared with Vancouver)

Abbotsford has one local FM, the shared stations as mentioned and the religious station in Lynden, Washington draws a large audience from the Valley.

Surrey has one English FM and a handful of Indo-Canadian stations.

CBC has a number of repeaters in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Harrison and Hope.

What do YOU want to hear on a station that serves YOU in the Fraser Valley?
