Fraser Valley – By now you have noticed on social media, the Facebook and Twitter pleas for your vote in the October Municipal Elections.

All the candidates running for local office this fall have circled Friday July 27 on their calendars, day planners and entered the date on their smart phones.

That’s when local governments  haul out the paperwork and nomination packages are available to them.

Completed nomination packages must be submitted by 4pm Friday, September 14.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older;
  • resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.

There are no fees to file the paperwork however, depending on city/municipality, a deposit of up to $500 may be needed to have permission to put up election signs.

The province-wide municipal elections are October 20, 2018.
