UFV Chilliwack Streamlines First Year Schedules For A Range Of Degree Programs

Chilliwack – First-year UFV students who live in Chilliwack will be able to start their university studies close to home in several programs in the upcoming academic year.

The university has committed to offering the first full year of several popular bachelor’s degree programs at the Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park starting in September, 2018.

These include the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice), the Bachelor of Business Administration, and the Bachelor of Science.

All the required courses for the first year of these programs will be offered, including electives.

The timetables have been designed to ensure there are no conflicts or overlaps in course scheduling, so students can plan to be on campus three or four days a week in a clustered time format.

“We are committed to improving our programming and service to students from the Chilliwack community and the Eastern Fraser Valley,” noted Alisa Webb, Associate Dean of Arts. “We recognize the value in giving students the option of studying in their home community for at least the first year of their degree programs while they adjust to post-secondary studies. We also want to enhance the programming diversity at our Chilliwack campus.”

UFV will provide these classes even if they are not full to capacity, and will continue providing services such as access to student academic support, advising, counselling, and the library on the Chilliwack campus.

Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz is pleased to see that UFV is committed to enhancing programming in Chilliwack.

“I am pleased that UFV has committed to offering the first full year of several degree programs at the Chilliwack campus, bringing additional educational opportunities closer to home for our students,” said Gaetz. “The City of Chilliwack has been a proud community partner with UFV since its inception and we applaud programming choices that seek to address the needs of students in our community. Well done, UFV!”

For other programs based in Abbotsford, UFV offers a shuttle service in partnership with its Student Union Society between its Chilliwack and Abbotsford campuses, and also one between Abbotsford and Langley.

Programs based primarily at the Chilliwack campus include Health Sciences (Nursing, Dental, Health Care Assistant, and Kinesiology), Trades and Technical offerings, and Agriculture. Enhancing the first-year offerings in several other program areas will increase the range of programming on campus.
