The problem was, like many artists, sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll and Negron was no different. Although clean and sober since 1991, Negron should be dead.
A heroin addict with a little crack cocaine, pot, booze and plenty of packs of cigarette later, he deals with emphysema, and Hep C. From all the years of needle use, Negron is surprised he didn’t die from AIDS.
He has revitalized his music career, although don’t expect a Three Dog Night reunion. It has been years since he was living on the street of LA, where it got so bad, that a gang banger was going to shoot him, but didn’t think he was worth it.
For those in recovery, it’s a fascinating read. For those who are just average fans, it might shatter a few fond memories. But it is worth the 480 page read. It’s that good. The 2017 update brings you up to speed on where Negron is today and fills some of the gaps from the first edition.
