Abbotsford Barn Fire – 25,000 Birds Lost

Abbotsford – On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 12:46 PM, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) responded to a report of a barn fire at 4184 Ross Road.

On arrival, AFRS crews found a two storey 100m x 25m chicken barn on fire, with flames engulfing the full length of the barn, and threatening to spread to a second barn on the property.

Fire crews were able to safely and quickly stop the fire from spreading to the second barn and other exposures in the area. The barn and approximately 25,000 birds were lost in the fire.

Seven AFRS units and approximately thirty firefighters attended the incident. APD, BC Hydro, Fortis, Salvation Army and B.C. Ambulance were also on scene. There were no injuries to any civilians or Emergency Services personnel.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. AFRS fire investigators will be on scene to determine the cause.
