Abbotsford Chamber Awards Three Community Grants

Abbotsford – The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce awarded Community Grants totalling $2,500 to three Abbotsford organizations at their December luncheon. The Community Grant Program was created to provide financial assistance to non- profit, community-based organizations that provide direct programs, services or activities that enhance the quality of life for Abbotsford residents.
The main focus areas of the grants are social services, health, the arts, culture, heritage and the environment.
Of the 13 applications : The year’s recipients are:
The Abbotsford Community Services Food Bank – to sponsor two Starfish Backpacks.
These backpacks are filled each weekend with enough food to get the chosen elementary-aged child and their family through the days when in- school feeding programs are not available.
The Bakerview Music Academy- to help expand their after-school music program for Abbotsford Youth who are economically challenged. Funds are needed for new instruments, instrument repairs, facility rental and after school snacks for the participants.
The Atangard Community Project Society – for the Jam in Jubilee Summer Concert Series in 2017. This multi-disciplinary, multicultural festival is offered without admission cost to community members.
Its purpose is to foster community spirit through organizing and supporting events and promote artists and musicians in the community through exposure, events and other initiatives.
Representatives of each of the organizations were in attendance at the luncheon and were presented with cheques.
