Chilliwack Property Crime Ring Shut Down

Chilliwack:  A Chilliwack man arrested by the RCMP during the execution of a search warrant now faces criminal charges for the possession and sale of stolen property.

The raid and arrest stem from the Chilliwack RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) investigation initiated after police received a call on October 17, 2016 to report the theft of a construction trailer and snow plough attachment from a compound in the 45000-block of Petawawa Road.

Chilliwack CRU plainclothes investigators supported by Hope RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and ICBC investigators completed a thorough investigation which linked a suspect and an associated residence to the alleged theft.

At approximately 11 a.m. on November 10, 2016 CRU officers supported by the PDS executed a search warrant at a home in the 4300-block of Estate Drive in Chilliwack where the suspect was taken into custody and evidence linking him to property stolen from around the community was seized by police.

“Cell phones, wallets, laptop computers, vehicle insurance papers, licence plates, and ammunition were seized by officers during the execution of the search warrant,” said Corporal Adam Tallboy from Chilliwack RCMP CRU.

Khristopher Benson, 38, faces four charges of Possession of Stolen Property, one charge of possession of ammunition while prohibited to do so, and two charges of trafficking stolen property.   Benson remains in custody pending a court appearance in early December.
