Chiefs With Old Captain – New Blood

Chilliwack – The Chiefs are pleased to announce that forward Jordan Kawaguchi will serve as the team’s Captain for the 2016-17 season. Kawaguchi is returning for his fourth season with the Chiefs and becomes just the second player in team history to wear the “C” for two seasons. Doug Ast served as Captain for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.

Defenseman Olivier Arseneau will serve as an Assistant Captain, a position he held last season as well.

“We are very fortunate to have Jordan return to our team this season for several different reasons, one of which is his leadership qualities,” said Chiefs General Manager Jason Tatarnic. “Jordan and Olivier held the same positions last season and know what is expected from them from our coaching staff, their teammates and our fans. That expectation is to work hard every shift. Work ethic is the only thing players can control in a game or practice.  We had a successful season last year and we want to have another one again and it starts with leadership.”

Joining Arseneau as Assistant Captains are returning forwards Kale Kane and Linden Hora. Both are entering their final season of junior hockey and their second season with the Chiefs.

“Linden brings a strong work ethic every game and will lead by example,” said Tatarnic.  It’s not hard to appreciate how he plays the game and the effort he brings every shift. Kale is no different and I believe he can be a difference maker for us this season. He’s a very talented player and he’s a respected player within the league. Both players have done an excellent job through camp so far. We are proud to have all four as part of our leadership group.”
