Chilliwack/Surrey – After a cellmate fight at Surrey Pre-trial on August 3, a Chilliwack man has been charged with the death.
The man killed was identified as 25-year-old John Michael Murphy.
An other cellmate, 22-year-old Jordan Cole Burt of Chilliwack, has been charged with second degree murder.
IHIT, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is handling the case and say the two men didn’t know each other prior to being placed in the same cell.
Both men were waiting to appear in court in unrelated cases.
Burt remains at Surrey Pre-Trial and his next court date in Surrey Provincial Court is September 2.
