UFV Cascades Collecting Shoes For Those In Need

Abbotsford – The Cascades women’s basketball team has begun a shoe drive, collecting gently used footwear for donation to those in need. They’re collecting on behalf of Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization which has distributed 26 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries since 2006.

Fans are invited to bring shoes for donation to next week’s games – a collection bin will be set up in the lobby of the Envision Athletic Centre. The Cascades are aiming to amass 1,000 pairs of shoes, and they’re already at 200.

“Last year we did a fundraiser for people in third-world countries who don’t have water, and we noticed how far they have to walk to get water,” Claggett said. “By collecting shoes, we’ll be able to help those same people in a different way. The shoes can also be distributed in our own community as well, to help those in need.”
