UFV Women’s Cascades Hoops Host Japan U-18 Sunday

Abbotsford – The University of the Fraser Valley women’s basketball team has an exciting opportunity this Sunday, as they host an exhibition game against Japan’s under-18 national team.

The Japanese squad is touring B.C., and they’ll visit the Envision Athletic Centre to take on the Cascades at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Cascades are well into their off-season – their last game was Feb. 27 – but despite the fact they’re not necessarily game-sharp, this was an opportunity that head coach Al Tuchscherer just couldn’t pass up.

“I think more than anything, it’s a unique experience for our girls to be a part of,” Tuchscherer said. “Any time you can play a team from another part of the world, there’s lots of learning and it’s a special event.

“I don’t really know what to expect from them. From our perspective, that’s what makes these games kind of fun – you don’t really know what you’re getting yourself into, and you have to be ready to adapt. I think they’ll probably further along in their development as a team right now.”

Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for seniors and non-UFV students. Admission is free for children age six and under, and UFV students with ID.

The Japan U18 team’s jaunt through B.C. also includes games against a high school all-star team (Saturday, April 2) and against the Trinity Western Spartans (Tuesday, April 5).Abbotsford –
