Charges Recommended After Bizarre February 1 Abby Hit And Run

Abbotsford, BC -February 2 UPDATE – After two vehicles were hit by the same driver  within minutes of each and one women going to hospital, Abbotsford Police  have put the story together. Fortunately no one was killed although this scenario could have been worse.

February 2 APD RELEASE – The investigation into the two collisions yesterday afternoon is continuing. The female pedestrian involved in the second collision has made remarkable progress and is currently listed in stable condition.

At this time, police are recommending charges of Impaired Driving by Drugs Causing Bodily Harm against the 30-year-old male driver of the truck.

The APD continues to appeal for witnesses in these two collisions and is asking witnesses that may have seen either collision to come forward and speak with police. Anyone with information about this incident should call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or text 222973 (abbypd)

ORIGINAL STORY AND APD RELEASE– February 1st, 2016

At 4:30pm Monday afternoon, the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a pedestrian struck collision in the 30700 block of Cardinal Ave.

Fire Rescue Service members and BC Ambulance staff arrived on scene and determined a 19-year-old female was suffering from serious injuries as a result of being pinned underneath a pickup truck. The female was transported by air ambulance to a Vancouver area hospital for further treatment. The 30-year-old male driver of the truck involved in the collision remained on scene.

While on scene, police were advised of another motor vehicle accident that occurred minutes earlier, occurring in the 30200 block of Automall Drive. Witnesses describe seeing a large truck collide with a vehicle before departing the area at a high rate of speed. No injuries were sustained to the driver of the victim vehicle. Police can confirm that both collisions involve the same suspect truck.

Abbotsford Police Department Patrol Division Officers and Collision Reconstructionists are continuing the investigation. The area will remain closed for several hours while the investigation continues.
