APD Arrest Robbery Suspect Just Minutes After The Crime

Abbotsford, BC – On Tuesday Afternoon,( December 1, 2015 just before 4:00 pm) a male suspect entered a business in the 32300 block of Peardonville Road.

Immediately upon entry, the suspect pepper sprayed the 70-year-old owner of the store and pushed him to the ground.

The suspect then ordered the owner to open the safe. During the robbery, the owner’s wife entered the store and was also confronted and sprayed by the suspect. She ran out of the business and flagged down a passing motorist for assistance. She was able to provide police with a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect fled in a Chevy Cavalier with cash and jewelry he had obtained from the safe.

The suspect, however, did not get very far. An Abbotsford Police ERT (Emergency Response Team) member heard the broadcast of the incident and a description of the suspect vehicle over the police radio system.

Alertly he located the car at the intersection of Clearbrook and Marshall Roads. The suspect was arrested with pepper spray and the stolen cash and jewelry located in the vehicle. The APD received the 911 call reporting the robbery at 4:04 pm and located the suspect at 4:09 pm.

The suspect is a 36-year-old man from Langley with previous convictions for Robbery and Aggravated Assault. APD investigators will be recommending a charge of Robbery with a Weapon in relation to this incident.
