BUSINESS – Mission Project Wins 2015 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award

Ottawa/Mission – Golder Associates Ltd. has won an Award of Excellence at the 2015 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala, held Friday night in Ottawa. The firm was honoured in the Water Resources category for its contribution to Canada’s economy, environment and society through its innovative and high quality work on the Ruskin Dam ‒ Right Abutment Seepage Control Upgrade project in Mission, British Columbia.

Now in their 47th year, the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. They are considered the highest recognition for excellence in the consulting engineering industry.

“These awards highlight the outstanding talent and expertise of Canadian consulting engineering firms,” said ACEC President and CEO John Gamble. “By recognizing these projects with national awards, we are showcasing the important contributions of engineering firms to Canadians and the huge impact they have both here at home and around the world.”

Award winners were selected by a panel of 12 independent jurors who have distinguished backgrounds in various sectors of the industry.

Ruskin Dam ‒ Right Abutment Seepage Control Upgrade

BC Hydro’s Right Abutment Seepage Control Upgrade project was undertaken to address seepage issues and seismic performance. An innovative cut-off system was designed and installed by Golder Associates as the main contractor. The work included construction of a narrow, deep slot connecting a new plastic concrete cut-off wall system with the existing concrete dam, and development and installation of a custom designed flexible mastic asphalt membrane, the first known application in North America.
