Abbotsford, BC – The City of Abbotsford is a finalist in the provincial small business ministry’s “Open for Business” awards, which come with a potential prize of $10,000.
The awards are to be given to communities that best promote small business, reduce red tape, and follow the spirit of the ministry’s Small Business Accord.
Other communities named as finalists are the City of Langley, the Nisga’a Nation, Prince Rupert, Sidney, Surrey and the Tsawwassen First Nation.
Award winners will be announced on Sept. 22, 2015 at the annual Union of British Columbia Municipalities conference in Vancouver.
In 2015, nine communities won the award, including the City of Langley, Port Coquitlam and Surrey.
“I congratulate the award finalists who have worked hard to create an open for business culture in their communities,” said Coralee Oakes, B.C. Minister of Small Business, Red Tape Reduction and Responsible for Liquor, in a press release. “It’s important for us to recognize their efforts to reduce the cost and complexity of doing business in British Columbia.”
