On Wednesday, July 15, the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations made an announcement that the drought rating for BC’s south coast and Lower Fraser areas was at a level 4, the highest possible drought rating. The Province has urged water users to maximize their water conservation efforts.
In order to be good stewards of our water resources, the City of Chilliwack has initiated stage 3 watering restrictions. Under these watering restrictions, residents are allowed to water one day a week between 5 am – 8 am. Even numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and odd numbered addresses on Thursdays. Residents that do choose to water their lawns during these times should ensure they don’t unnecessarily water sidewalks or roads.
Watering flower and vegetable gardens, shrubs and trees is still permitted at any time with the use of a spring-loaded hose adaptor, watering can, or soaker hose.
With the move to stage 3 watering restrictions comes an increase in enforcement for the rest of the summer. Those caught watering outside of the restricted hours will be provided with a warning before receiving a $100 fine.
