Spring Flowers Decorate Mill Street – Downtown Chilliwack

Chilliwack, BC – There’s a new piece of public art downtown! At the April 21, 2015 Regular Meeting of Council, Chilliwack City Council approved a recommendation from the Chilliwack Public Art Advisory Committee that a temporary pop-up art piece be approved. The piece, titled Spring Flowers, was the vision of local artist Louisa De Vette.

Mr. Hagkull’s class from nearby Central Elementary Community School painted Spring Flowers and personalized the piece by adding their thumbprints to one of the giant flowers. The mural was completed on June 17, 2015, with Mayor Gaetz and school Principal Waddington filling in the last blank space.

“It was a great experience to add the finishing touch to such a beautiful work of art,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz. “The grade four and five children did an excellent job bringing the mural to life, and Mr. Hagkull along with Central Elementary Community School went above and beyond to make this project a reality.”

The vibrant flower mural painting can be found on the side of the old hardware building on Mill Street.
