Hope Mountie Credited With Saving Distressed Man On Bridge

Hope, BC –  Remaining calm under stress a local RCMP officer convinced an ailing man to walk to safety earlier this week.

On Monday afternoon (June 15, 2015) Hope RCMP received a report of a man in distress on the Trans Canada Highway at the Fraser River Bridge. The first officer arrived to find a man standing mid span looking over the railing at the river below.

“The man was agitated and would not let me approach him”, said Cst. Marianne Feigl of Hope RCMP.

As other officers arrived and took control of traffic Cst. Feigl continued to build a rapport with the 44 year old Chilliwack man and after 50 minutes of conversation convinced him to walk from the bridge deck to safety.

The man was transported to hospital.
