Ride Hailing Now A Reality In BC – But The First Won’t Come To The Fraser Valley

Victoria/Vancouver/Tofino – The Passenger Transportation Board, which is an independent licensing tribunal, has completed its review of two ride hailing company applications and Green Coast Ventures Inc. has been approved to operate in Region 1: Lower Mainland, Whistler; and Region 3: Vancouver Island, excluding Capital Regional District (CRD).

It will be called Whistle and serve Tofino and Whistler for now. The Board left the door open for other company’s to start in the “near future”.

The Facebook page is here.

The service will NOT be available in the Fraser Valley.

The regulators have been directed to issue the licence to Green Coast Ventures Inc. Next steps for the approved applicant after receiving its licence from the Registrar are to secure appropriate motor vehicle insurance and to work with municipalities in its operating areas to ensure compliance with local by-laws.

The decisions were made after a careful review of the extensive materials received during the application process which included the supporting information provided by the applicants and submissions from interested members of the public, which included information from experts.

Copies of both decisions can be viewed in the PT Board Bulletin of December 16, 2019.

Speaking on CKNW, Dylan Green, founder of Green Coast Ventures Inc says they do NOT intend to operate services in Metro Vancouver. Instead, their focus is Whistler and Tofino.
