December 1 – Christmas Counter Attack – Don’t Drink And Drive

Fraser Valley – RCMP are preparing to ramp-up police intervention and prevention of impaired driving with December 1 marking the launch of the month long CounterAttack campaign.

In conjunction with police agencies across BC, Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Service will be ‘Lighting up the highway’ with enhanced enforcement over the Christmas Season and remind motorists impaired driving is not restricted only to alcohol but also encompasses impairment by cannabis.

“Christmas is a festive celebration shared with family and friends,” says Constable Josh Becker of Chilliwack RCMP. “We encourage those who choose to consume alcohol or cannabis while enjoying the season to be responsible and plan ahead for a safe means of transit home.”

Tips to plan a safe trip home:

·         Organize a designated driver program with family and friends.

·         Plan ahead to travel by public transit or taxi.

·         Stay overnight.

Beginning November 29, 2019 Operation Red Nose offers another option for arriving home safely.  Available Fridays and Saturdays throughout the holiday season revellers who feel unfit to drive home can use the Operation Red Nose mobile app or, call 604-393-3000 for a team of Operation Red Nose volunteers to help you get home safely.
