Chilliwack/Victoria/Burnaby – The BC Coroners Service has scheduled a public inquest into the death of Corey John Scherbey, beginning on April 14, 2020, at the Burnaby Coroners’ Court.
The death of Scherbey, 38, was reported to the BC Coroners Service on August, 22, 2011, after he was discovered deceased at his residence in Chilliwack that afternoon.
Initially the death was rules as an overdose but his parents maintain that he was murdered.
Earlier this year, under Section 19(1)(a) of the Coroners Act, Mike Farnworth, the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General directed that it is ͞necessary or desirable in the public interest that an inquest be held.͟
Presiding coroner Margaret Janzen and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances. A jury must not make any finding of legal responsibility or express any conclusion of law.
