Body Found In Fraser River Near Mission – Connected To Incident Upriver In Hope

The RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident which involves a man last seen entering the Fraser River (Near Hope) ultimately being discovered deceased days later, downstream near Mission.

Around 10 AM on July 23, Hope RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle at a residence in Yale.

Officers reported seeing the now identified stolen vehicle driving away from the residence and multiple attempts were made to pull the vehicle over but they were unsuccessful.

The vehicle was eventually located stopped with one occupant inside. Officers were able to locate and arrest three other people, but one man was seen in the Fraser River before officers lost sight of him. Subsequent searches to locate the male were not successful.

The individual was recovered deceased on July 26, 2019 from the Fraser River near Mission.

IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions (or inactions) are linked to the man’s death. This is a standard procedure with IIO.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
