Abbotsford – Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun took to social media on Thursday morning with an update on the Vye Road railway overpass project that ties in with the expansion of Highway 11 to the US border.
That will include the expansion of the Nexus lane, which was given the green light in 2017.
The RFP for Vye Road should be out within the next month and after that, will come back to the City Council for comments and further action.
In 2017 the City has partnered with the Provincial and Federal governments, through the Building Canada Fund, to improve traffic congestion and safety concerns in this area. The Vye Road/Highway 11 roads improvement project includes widening Highway 11 by extending the Nexus lane by 1.3 km to the US border and constructing a two-lane overpass on Vye Road, between Highway 11 and Riverside Road. Construction is anticipated to start in 2019 and be completed within two years.
|The project cost of $30M will be funded as follows:|
|Federal (Building Canada Fund)||$8.33M|
|City of Abbotsford||$10.835M|
The project delivery method will be design-build (DB), with the following anticipated schedule:
|Request for Proposals Issuance to Shortlisted Proponents||June 2019|
|Proponent Selected/DB Start||September 2019|
|Substantial Completion||October 2020|
