Crowdfunding On Patreon – Supporting FVN And Local Journalism For $5/Month (VIDEO)

Fraser Valley –  FVN Fraser Valley News wants to Promote Young Journalists with an on line social media reporting platform and looking for sponsored and patrons of independent journalists to help along the way.

FVN has a Patreon page. Wikipedia describes Patreon  as popular among YouTube videographers, webcomic artists, writers, podcasters, musicians, and other categories of creators who post regularly online. It allows artists to receive funding directly from their fans, or patrons, on a recurring basis or per work of art.

FVN wants to reach out to young/students writers (high school and college) to contribute.  The goal is to create a stipend fund to pay for some their bills ( as well as FVN- the usual– IT, hydro etc). For fans of independent voices in journalism, you can financially contribute as well (plus there are perks).

From the FVN Patreon page:

FVN Fraser Valley News launched in 2015 by RadioDon Lehn. I have 40 years of media behind me (most of which in radio) and now with all the Fraser Valley News Rooms shut down, This old dog went to social media. (I was one of the News Directors shown the door and have been laid off by corporate media…well, I can count the lay offs on both hands..lol).

FVN is News Sports and Entertainment powered by the only locally owned independent media outlet that serves the 320,000 in the Fraser Valley next to Vancouver.

And what did we find out? We have followers across Canada, the US, Australia, Europe and major Canadian media follows us too !

I was 19 (in 1979) when I graduated from BCIT Radio. I had mentors. I won’t let that mentoring stop. Young media students and aspiring journalists need a place to start.

With Patreon, we want to help those young journos. Students from High School to college need a stipend to pay for food, gas etc just to get from story to story and have the tools to get the stories to YOU.

FVN also needs financial backing from you to maintain our bills and professional audio and video equipment and tools to get the job done.

More on the Patreon page can be found here.
