Chilliwack – One person was arrested – alleged stolen property and a break-in tool were seized -during an RCMP investigation of a smash and grab theft from an automobile.
On Friday afternoon, November 30, RCMP Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) officers conducting an investigation in the area of Gore Avenue and Nowell Street noted a cyclist pedalling property to a site behind a near-by business.
POST investigators patrolled the area and quickly established a pickup truck parked at the corner of Young Road and Victoria Avenue was the subject of a smash and grab. Evidence gathered at the scene pointed investigators back to the cyclist.
Within minutes the cyclist was found and quickly taken into custody by police. Articles linking the suspect to property stolen from the pickup and other thefts reported to the Chilliwack RCMP were seized by officers during the arrest.
Branden Paul Tanner, 20, of Chilliwack is charged with possession of an instrument for the purpose of breaking into a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime. Mr. Tanner has been released from custody pending a court date in late December.
