Surrey/Cloverdale – The City of Surrey has identified a potential location for additional supportive housing that would provide new homes for approximately 60 people in Cloverdale.
This is the first permanent site proposed by the city as part of its joint commitment with the Province to build 250 permanent supportive housing units throughout Surrey. Once built, these permanent sites will replace the 160 temporary modular homes that are housing people who were formerly living on 135A Street.
Located at 5800 block of 176A Street in Cloverdale, the 60 new homes would provide housing with 24/7 supports for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Priority will be given to individuals who are homeless in Cloverdale. However, the housing will also be available to people in the surrounding area who are homeless, and those currently living in the temporary supportive housing units in central Surrey.
BC Housing will host an open house in September 2018 to provide more information about the project and collect community feedback, which will inform the direction of the proposed project. A non-profit building operator will be identified prior to the open house.
The site is city-owned land and will be subject to a rezoning and development-permit application process. If this supportive housing project is approved, construction is estimated to start in January 2019, with the goal of occupancy for winter 2019-20.
